Major Contribution from Fiskobirlik to the Giresun Economy

Fiskobirlik Chairman of the Board Lütfi Bayraktar stated that they aim to increase employment at the Integrated Hazelnut Processing Plant to 500 people by the end of 2020.

Fiskobirlik has been contributing to the Giresun economy for 82 years, since 1938. The Fiskobirlik Integrated Hazelnut Processing Plant (EFIT), which has been operating in Giresun since 1981, employs 493 people. Fiskobirlik pays approximately 20 million TL in salaries annually to the personnel working at its General Directorate, its cooperatives in Giresun, and EFIT A.Ş.

Stating that they are targeting more investment and employment in 2021, Fiskobirlik Chairman of the Board Lütfi Bayraktar said, “As of today, 493 people work at our Integrated Hazelnut Processing Plant in Giresun. At our General Directorate and our 9 Cooperatives within the borders of Giresun province, we employ 81 personnel. Almost all of our colleagues live in Giresun and are from Giresun. This year, we paid more than 15 million TL in total net salaries to our colleagues working at our Integrated Plant. Together with taxes, this amount reaches 21 million TL. Our personnel working at the General Directorate and our Cooperatives were paid approximately 4 million TL in total net salaries annually. These are very significant figures. However, we do not consider them sufficient.”

Stating that Fiskobirlik provided the most employment in Giresun in 2019, Lütfi Bayraktar said that they want to maintain this goal in 2020 as well. Bayraktar said, “As Fiskobirlik, we too experienced some difficulties due to the pandemic, as did our country and the world. We made a serious effort to ensure that production and product supply operations were not disrupted. The health of our employees comes before everything else for us. For this reason, we continued our operations while complying with the rules. Despite all this, we continued to provide employment this year as well. Our target for 2020 was to bring the number of employees at our Integrated Plant to 500. I believe we will comfortably reach this target by the end of the year.”

In addition to employment, Fiskobirlik also takes care to work with companies based in Giresun when procuring the auxiliary materials used in its production chain. Bayraktar said, “At our Integrated Plant, which continues production 24 hours a day in 3 shifts, and at our Cooperatives, we take care to work with companies located in Giresun for needs such as production, cleaning, transportation, and the like. Our priority is always companies based in Giresun. Of course, while doing this, we take the economic interests of our Union into consideration. I would like to point out that this institution does not have even 1 kuruş to waste. For this reason, we also take this into account when choosing our solution partners.”

Finally, stating that Fiskobirlik will have new investments in 2021, Chairman of the Board Lütfi Bayraktar said, “With the new investments we will make in 2021, we want to continue adding value to this city and its people by providing more employment. In line with this goal, our growers also need to unite, stand behind their Union, bring their hazelnuts to Fiskobirlik, and support us by consuming the products Fiskobirlik produces. If this unity and contribution are achieved, I believe we will reach our target more quickly.”
